HTML Helps...

Sheila has developed websites for years and freely offers the following advice:

Title Tags Are Important

If you're a webmaster, designer or developer note the following regarding the often overlooked "TITLE TAG"

According to this site -

http://www.googlerank.com/ranking/Ebook/first.html

Your title tag, URL (domain name), and keywords are all important when it comes time for Google to rank (where you are in the results list in a search) your site.

Key points I like to remember:

Your title tag determines what people see at the top of your browser in the title bar. In the title bar of the link I've given you, you will notice it reads: TITLE TAG - The Definitive Google Ranking strategy guide by Googlerank

You can see how descriptive that is and how someone searching for information about title tags and their google ranking would be taken right to that site. In fact, when I searched google for that information I put in:

title tag how to for google

and that googlerank site came up FIRST.

As a designer I strongly dislike that sites design, colors, and so forth but the information is nonetheless relevant and helpful. Perhaps a better site with more reasons as to why the title tag is important is this one:

http://www.seologic.com/faq/title-tags.php

Scroll down to the paragraph called - The Roles of the Title Tag in a Web Page

and continue reading on about Search Engine Optimization.

And never be afraid to update your title tags, meta tags, keywords, etc. The more relevant these are to your site and what people are searching on the more hits you'll receive!

I update my title tags, meta tags, and keywords often! Usually based on my research as to what people are searching for, any new buzzwords in my industry and so on.

Change the only constant.

Presentations Done Right

  • Figure out your key point - this cannot be stated enough!
  • Determine your secondary points.
  • Determine if graphics will add/deter from you making your claim.
  • Add graphics only where they will provide the most impact.
  • Make sure your font size is correct for the room you will be presenting to.
  • Understanding what the point is you need to make is key to producing great presentations.
  • If you need more hints than your talking points allow use a feature within Powerpoint to add these that do not show up in your final presentation.
  • You can print the slides with these speaker notes so you'll have all of the information you need when the times comes to do the presenting.
  • Smile!
  • Do It Right

  • Most web development, or any development project for that matter, is an iterative process and that's okay! Sometimes iterative is preferable! Just as long as you go step by step...
  • Design
    Seek approval
    Develop
    Seek approval again
    Change
    Get approval again
    Test
    Obtain sign-off

  • This type of iterative process can save everyone, the designer/developer and the customer a lot of headaches!

  • Words to the wise: Frustration = realizing you haven't created whatever it was you set out to do.
